Team over-sized or fitted for fall?
My thoughts on the tailoring trends and shopping edit for both.
Final week of summer and weather is getting milder already, did we even have summer this year? However, I’m not too sad about it, because with milder weather comes fall layering excitement and as I browse through fall collections, I can't seem to make up my mind, am I going to be over-sized or fitted look person this fall?
Since last season, fashion is definitely shifting towards more defined silhouettes and narrower lines in tailoring, but as I observe The Row and Carven ready-to-wear Fall 2024 collections, it is obvious that there will be two camps, over-sized/relaxed and fitted, or maybe one that cheers for both? I know for sure, that I will be the latter, and here’s why.
Having worn over-sized blazers, exclusively, for the number of years, I am looking for new shapes now, and feeling very drawn towards body hugging, classic silhouettes and defined waistlines. It feels like a breath of fresh femininity, which I found myself craving a lot lately. So far, I’ve purchased two fitted jackets: one from Massimo Dutti sale here, and another one from House of Dagmar here (it comes in gorgeous sand beige colour too, linked here). And I wore fitted coat from Source Unknown last winter, which proved to be nothing, but a compliment collector. However, this fall, I will be referencing The Row Look 1 and Look 4 a lot (Jesse pants and Fletcher jacket are pretty much sold out everywhere already!). And although not all brands released their fall/winter collections yet, I have listed all worthy fitted tailoring items that I found on the market so far, keep scrolling for the list.

Fitted tailoring I’m eyeing right now:
The Frankie Shop Coat, I think it is an absolute fall perfection for outwear
Loulou Studio suit no 1 (blazer and trousers), and suit no 2 (blazer and trousers)
This Magda Butrym jacket which is on sale now
Jil Sander fitted vintage jacket that I found on Garmentory, someone in size 12 will get very lucky
Aritzia surprised me with their tailoring this season, this blazer looks good, love it in every colour
Tiger of Sweden Ylja suit, very solidly fitted
Massimo Dutti was going so strong lately, love this body hugging suit, trousers and jacket
Few fitted blazers from H&M here, here and here looks like a good budget option
Being said all that, over-sized blazer is still my go to option when I want to achieve that perfect balance between feminine and masculine look. And there’s nothing more appealing than wearing big shoulder a la “borrowed from my boyfriend” jacket over an ultra feminine dress. Just like I wore it the other evening for ladies night out at The Stage Champagne Bar.
Or with capri pants, new trouser type which won’t go away anytime soon.
And then there’s a feeling, nothing is more empowering than relaxed, strong shoulder suiting, very masculine and powerful. I wear mine with heels most of the time, for extra height. And have you seen barrel leg trousers? I can’t quite decide which category they fit in, but I know for sure, they are not fitted. I favourited a pair from A.W.A.K.E mode, but sadly missed out on it.

Relaxed and oversized tailoring picks:
Carven blazer in flannel must be at the top of my list for winter, or their cotton blazer in navy. For more dramatic look and more accessible price point Giacca Rio Jacket or The Frankie Shop Bea blazer are very appealing to me.
Saw Carter Suit at St. Agni and couldn’t stop thinking about it since, blazer and trousers, skirt.
Filippa K is serving us with some gorgeous relaxed suits this fall, like this one, trousers and blazer
Relaxed corduroy suit from House of Dagmar (trousers and blazer), even if I won’t opt for the whole suit, brown corduroy trousers are very high on my wishlist this winter.

I would like to end with a definite conclusion over-sized is out, fitted is in, but I know that we’re just not ready to move into fitted suits full time yet. However, will I wear over-sized blazers a bit less and pursue fitted tailoring? Absolutely!
