In search for perfect loafers and flats
I went from store to store trying on ballerinas and loafers and here's what I found
The minute I discovered substack I felt an instant relief that blogging is coming back and I couldn’t wait to get on with it! I thought of writing introductory substack to kick off my newsletter, but then I decided against it and cut straight to the chase, writing about shoes! Since majority of you who will come here, as my very first readers, know me already, the last thing I want to do is bore you with the same stories I’ve shared on my social media.
It’s only natural for me to start with the post about shoe shopping, after-all the only reason I became interested in fashion, is an obsession about the footwear from very early age. I am lucky to have a mother who embraced it and is an incredibly patient person, who spent countless hours in my childhood waiting for hours for me to pick a pair I’m happy with. Not gonna lie, I haven’t changed a bit, and it takes me sometimes days of research and trying on to finally select my very favourite pair or two. But I enjoy it, and that’s what matters the most.
This month I was on a mission to find two new comfortable pairs, ballerinas and loafers (I have so many heels, it was time to update my flats section). However it didn’t go exactly as planned, because I totally fell for a pair of summer sandals, which I will leave for the end. After an extensive research here is what I bought and why.
White/Cream loafers

I was looking for more classic shapes this time, I think you will agree we are moving away from chunky loafers into more classic silhouettes. So, if you are considering getting a new pair, it’s best to go for classic loafer type, like penny or horsebit, to make at least few years from them before trend shifts again.
There’s nothing more chic, than wearing light colour loafer to lift any summer outfit, even if it’s just a pair of jeans with a white tee. Ideally, they have to fit perfect, not too small or big, so you can wear them with or without light socks, depending on the weather, and not only to keep you warm, but to add an unexpected spin to an outfit. You probably seen all the outfits with visible socks this season. I will try to make a post with some ideas next time.
In the end, I couldn’t get Hermes Paris loafer out of my head and that’s the one I went for. I’ve linked the ones I bought and the ones I almost bought below for you.
Dark Brown Ballerina Flats
Brown colour quite literally invaded our wardrobes and everyone seems to be overly excited about it. We were all into beige and creme suits with black shoes before, but this summer we are yearning for something lighter, and it’s brown in every shade. I love wearing mine with creme and white shades the most, but just to be fully transparent, I will be wearing my brown suede ballerinas with every outfit I feel like it. I snapped mine from Massimo Dutti, but they keep selling out, so if you like them as much as I do, grab on and don’t let go. And have you seen miu miu x new balance trainers in cinnamon colour?
Mary Jane Ballerina flats in any colour!
I’m holding back! But not because I don’t like them, I do and it takes a willpower to stick with just one pair, but I already have my beloved miu miu satin ballerinas which I’ve got for my birthday last year and I’m trying to be a sensible shopper. However, the selection is absolutely insane at the moment and I suspect it won’t take too long for me to splurge on the Alaia mesh mary janes, which I keep eyeing every time I go out shopping.
Mary Jane flat is the most perfect shoe to wear with dresses and skirts, and if you’re only going for one pair of flats this season, they will be the most versatile choice of all. Transforming to look like minimal flats with wide trousers, but looks like a completely different shoe when worn with the skirt.
Unexpected purchase - summer open toe sandals
I haven’t planned to look for open toe sandals until the next month, but since I was already in the boutique waiting for my loafers, I spotted these in my size on the shelf and couldn’t help but give them a try. It was a love at first try, and I couldn’t leave without them (Idole sandals Hermes). They make them on a higher heel in black as well (Iconique sandal Hermes), and they’re beyond gorgeous, but weren’t available in the boutique for me to try on. I don’t have any alternatives noted yet, but I promise to make a styling post with my new found pair and I will have more ideas by then.
For now, have a wonderful week ahead and enjoy beautiful weather, we’ve been waiting long enough!
With love,
Victoria x
